Living the word
In terms of living the word, from an environmental perspective: a big high-five to the Barenaked Ladies, in particular Steven Page, for doing just that.
In terms of living the word from another perspective: some members of my family and I attended a really nice church service on Christmas Eve.
Christianity seems to conjure up a really specific image these days: anti-homosexuality, anti-gay marriage, pro-life, George W. Bush's alleged personal conversations with God, Bible-belts, Bible-thumpers, and the "Christian right". Some people use it to spread hateful messages and ideas that sit poorly with many of us, for good reason.
However, the particular Christian denomination I was baptized into, have been attending on occasion, and will be married through next June, is socially liberal and completely respectful of other faiths. It doesn't encourage the entirety of the Bible to be taken literally, but rather as metaphors. It encourages thinking over blind faith, and embraces science. Not bad for a faith that has such a negative image these days.
